The Assistant category is the lowest level in the NPS hierarchy and it comprises of officers who have a Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSSC) or its equivalent in any relevant subject.

• Prison Assistant I (PA I): This is the highest rank in the Assistant category and it is equivalent to the rank of a Corporal. The PA I assists the AIP in controlling a cell or
  a ward. The PA I reports to the AIP.
• Prison Assistant II (PA II): This is the second highest rank in the Assistant category and it is equivalent to the rank of a Lance Corporal.
