The business social network LinkedIn investigated which starter positions have grown the fastest over the past two years and which skills are required for them. The demand for starters is growing, especially in online marketing and construction.

The number of vacancies grew fastest for novice online marketers, but employers are also looking for starters for other positions in the ‘online world’, such as Front End Developer, Cloud Engineer and Full Stack Engineer. “The pandemic has ensured that many companies see the need to invest in their online visibility,” says Marcel Molenaar, Country Manager LinkedIn Benelux. “Everything we used to do offline, such as events or physical appointments, had to be done online very quickly. This is clearly reflected in the growth in vacancies in online marketing and sales.” But recent graduates are also in demand for specialists in construction and real estate. For example, the number of vacancies for Electrical Engineer, Real Estate Specialist and Construction Management Specialist has grown rapidly since the beginning of 2019. LinkedIn also examined which skills are in demand for the fastest-growing positions. Especially software and data-related skills are in demand. To get a good starter job, it is important to possess those skills or to train yourself in them.
